About Us
HealthTec is a project conceived and developed through effective partnership working in Birmingham; the resulting HealthTec Centre proved such a success that health economies nationally have taken up the franchise from the parent HealthTec Company ‘HealthTec Hands on Health Limited’
The HealthTec South West Centre is based in Plymouth and has developed from the original model to form a strong partnership to serve the South West Peninsula.
HealthTec South West is a "Plymouth Better Together" Charter Holder.
The HealthTec Mission
The mission of HealthTec is to encourage and develop the future workforce by enthusing young people about science; to develop their understanding of their own health and wellbeing and to promote the notion of active citizenship in relation to the use, and development, of clinical and social services.
HealthTec will provide a service to employers and employees in the public, private and third sectors, supporting the current health, social care and education workforce through delivery of relevant professional development and training.
HealthTec provides 3 main services:
- School and 14-19 Curriculum Delivery and Development
- Training and Continuing Professional Development Opportunities
- Facilities Available to Hire
These services will meet the following HealthTec objectives:
Curriculum
- To raise awareness of, and encourage young people to consider the options the health and social care sectors offer them in terms of future employment and to follow this up with excellent IAG on progression
- To raise attainment in the health and social care and associated subjects, in particular science
- To contribute to the delivery of the current curriculum around health and social care and associated sectors in a more relevant, interactive environment
- To support PSHEE and Citizenship in particular addressing regional issues including teenage pregnancy and substance misuse
- To deliver and develop new qualifications in the health, social care and associated sectors
- To address the Widening Participation agenda in particular working with those in danger of disengaging from education and not in education, employment or training (NEET)
- To support schools and the education sector in achieving the 21 st Century School System
- To work with schools, colleges and training providers to assist with key educational drivers such as supporting the 14-19 Diplomas, Apprenticeships and changes to the curriculum
Training
- To deliver and develop training and development opportunities for members of the public and CPD for those working in education or the health and social care and associated sectors
- Address workforce risk in the health and social care sectors
- To support people of all ages back into work and/or education

Facilities
- To provide a bookable space/venue for local businesses and organisations
- To welcome and encourage community engagement and social inclusion both through direct contact with the centre and indirectly through the young people attending HealthTec
