INTRODUCTION TO CARE
Created to support people committed to providing excellence in the delivery of care.
HealthTec are pleased to offer a new and exciting introductory course, essential for those wanting to embark on a career in caring and enabling and for those looking to refresh and develop their skills.
The Introduction to Care course has been designed by Jackie Peak an experienced Pharmacist and Kirsty Lewis, HealthTec’s Resource Coordinator and Dietician.
Areas covered include
- Medications awareness
- Record keeping and Confidentiality
- Person centred care
- Nutrition and entral feeding
The course is interactive and informative.

Cost: £30 per person which includes refreshments and a HealthTec certificate upon successful completion of the course.

SELF PROTECTION
HealthTec offers self defence courses delivered by qualified self defence instructor Darren Norris.
Our courses have been designed with input from Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, The Home Office, Security Industry Authority and Educational Bodies to provide you with the skills to protect yourself through teaching the common techniques used by attackers; Dialogue, Deception, Distraction and Destruction.
Our standard course is a 6 hour programme covering the following topics:
- What is Self Protection?
- Self Defence and the Law
- Practical Sessions including ‘The Fence’
- Road Rage
- Lone Worker Safety
- The Physical Encounter
- Fear versus Adrenalin
- Nights Out and Alcohol
- Sexual Offences
- The Rituals of an Attacker
This course is £30 per person but shorter courses and more in-depth training are also available.

FIRST AID AT WORK
HealthTec South West offers a variety of first aid training and will help you find the appropriate level of first aid to ensure you meet the requirements of the law.
All our instructors and assessors are accredited with the Health and Safety Executive approved provider Emergency First Response.
- First Aid at Work (FAW) -3 days (18 hours)
- First Aid at Work (FAW) Requalification- 2 days (12 hours)
- First at Work (FAW) Annual Refresher- 1 day (6 hours)
- Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) -1 day (6 hours)
The EFAW course covers the needs of the Appointed Person in the Workplace.
The First Aid at Work course complies with the Statutory requirements as laid out in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1981.
PAEDIATRIC AND YOUNG PERSON FIRST AID
- Care for Children-1 day (6 hours)
Suitable for parents and those in contact with children including babysitters. - Care for Children-2 day (12 hours)
This course meets with Ofsted requirements, essential for teaching staff and others in charge of children.
AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED)
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED)-1 day (6 hours)
This course is suitable for those organisations offering AED cover in their place of work.
YOUNG FIRST AIDER (St John Ambulance)
- Young First Aider- 6 hour course
This course can be spread over three 2 hour sessions and certificates can be given for each module completed. The course is suitable for young people aged 7 to 16.

We aim to make first aid accessible for every organisation and believe that some first aid providers can be restrictive especially for the 3 day First Aid at Work course; we can be flexible with dates so please contact us to find out when our courses are running and if we can meet your specific needs. HealthTec South West can also tailor first aid courses to meet the requirements of your organisation and industry.
We are passionate about ensuring every individual, young or old understands the basics of first aid; in particular CPR. We believe many lives could be saved if everyone had these basic skills so please contact us if you are interested in a short, informal introduction to first aid.
